More than 70 percent of the public school systems that won state dropout prevention grants last year saw their graduation rates decline in 2007-08. Only JLF Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops took time to discover that fact. His report on the topic attracted the attention of the WPTF Radio news department. (JLF Vice President for Development Chad Adams also discussed Stoops’ report, among other issues, during an appearance this week on Curtis Wright’s radio program for Wilmington’s WLTT, “The Big Talker.”) Stoops also granted a television interview to Bob Buckley of WGHP Television on scandals surrounding the public schools’ free and reduced-price lunch program. The Winston-Salem Journal also picked up an Associated Press story quoting Stoops’ response to a dispute over statewide public school ABC bonuses.
