Guilford County Schools’ Mission Possible program offers a case study for the value of performance pay in boosting teacher quality within North Carolina’s public schools. JLF Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops recently examined early results from Mission Possible, and the Greensboro News & Record responded to Stoops’ report with an editorial. The News & Observer (in print and on its education blog) also turned to Stoops this week for reaction to news that Wake County’s school board has adopted renovation plans that could be incorporated into the next countywide school bond package. Meanwhile, the Durham Herald-Sun and Charlotte’s Creative Loafing both published stories this week responding to Stoops’ most recent assessment of North Carolina’s high school dropout prevention grants.  The Chatham News also published a recent article linked to another Stoops report that rated North Carolina school systems based on their “parent-friendliness.”
