Along with his contributions to National Review Online’s health-care discussion, John Hood has pontificated on national issues this week in NRO’s main blog, “The Corner.” This week’s notes included discussions of the war in Afghanistan and the controversy surrounding leftist activist group ACORN. At the state and local level, Hood spoke Thursday to the Durham Board of Realtors on issues affecting the real estate and building industries. N.C. Senate Republicans took note this week of two Daily Journal columns from Hood. The first discussed the furor over admission of illegal immigrants to the state’s community colleges. (The same GOP e-mail blast also highlighted a Carolina Journal exclusive criticizing Gov. Beverly Perdue for her plans to chase new jobs during a trip to Asia.) The second Republican e-mail blast highlighted a column advising North Carolina to steer clear of a trendy school testing idea. In other news, the Wilson Daily Times cited Hood in the past week in an article about the launch of the John Locke Foundation’s Carolina Freedom Clubs. A guest columnist in the Burlington Times-News also quoted Hood in a recent piece about civility in political debates. (John Hood, president of the conservative John Locke Foundation, also disclosed in his weekly column published in the Times-News that he has been labeled “a monster” in a threatening phone call. Indeed, the degree and nature of anger associated with this year’s political season is stunning.)
