School officials and media outlets across North Carolina responded this week to John Locke Foundation Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops‘ latest assessment of “parent-friendliness” within the state’s public school districts. The Lincoln County school system offered the most favorable response, issuing a press release (pdf link here) and highlighting the report on the system’s home page. The Lincoln Tribune also reported on the Lincoln schools’ performance. The Burlington Times-News, Shelby Star, Tryon Daily Bulletin, Wilkes Journal-Patriot, and Wilkes County News also reported on Stoops’ work. The Burlington newspaper story prompted a blurb on WGHP Television, while the Shelby article ended up highlighted on the Best Education Today Web site. WNCT Television also reported on the statewide results. In other public education news, the News & Observer‘s Wake Education blog mentioned the John Locke Foundation in a discussion of new Wake school board chairman Ron Margiotta. Meanwhile, the Lincoln Tribune highlighted Carolina Journal contributor Karen Welsh‘s latest exclusive on the challenges a Buncombe County early-college program faces.
