When Don Carrington left the State Board of Elections’ hearing room, he spent time working on another Carolina Journal exclusive, the accusation that Sen. R.C. Soles, D-Columbus, sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy more than three decades ago. Carrington discussed the story with WLTT Radio’s Curtis Wright and Thom Goolsby. Carrington’s story led to reports on WWAY (with its own follow-up report here), WECT, and WSFX Television in Wilmington. Each station credited Carrington’s original story. The Wilmington Star-News also placed the story on the front page of its Web site, and N.C. Senate Republicans highlighted Carrington’s article in a blast e-mail.
