Before Wake County voters overwhelmingly rejected the current school board’s diversity-based student assignment policies,  John Locke Foundation Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops offered his assessment of the election for the News & Observer. After Tuesday’s election, Stoops appeared (with one minute of notice) on the WPTF Radio morning show Wednesday to discuss the results. WPTF news featured Stoops’ comments throughout the day. JLF President John Hood also discussed the Wake school board election results in his Wednesday Daily Journal column, which N.C. Senate Republicans highlighted in a blast e-mail. Meanwhile, Stoops is set to travel next week for meetings of the Sandhills and Down East Freedom Clubs. The Fayetteville Observer previewed the Sandhills meeting, while Stoops discussed the Down East meeting and school system transparency during an appearance on WTKF’s “Viewpoints Radio.” In other education-related news, the Monroe Enquirer-Journal recently published N.C. Education Alliance Fellow Kristen Blair‘s Carolina Beat column on efforts to reduce education achievement gaps in public schools. The Tryon Daily Bulletin also reprinted contributor Hal Young‘s Carolina Journal exclusive about the impact of changes in state community college class offerings.
