Color me stunned that only 7,300 fans showed up for the UNC-Winthrop tilt in Bobcat Arena last night. That is some 12,000 short of a sellout.

Those in the seats saw a great game, albeit crippled by the NCAA’s lame no beer sales policy. (To have alcohol, you had to spring the big bucks for a private suite with the open bars. Tell me the principle at work here again?) Then there was the NCAA mandating that every electronic board and sign in the building hawked the NCAA or an official NCAA sponsor. The upshot? No in-game stats boards, a staple of most every venue these days.

Yep, nothing says fan-friendly like keeping the fans in the dark.

And the overall Uptown arena experience most rank low on the fan-friendly scale, or at least it is perceived that way locally. Otherwise, the seats would get filled.

Update: Turns out someone or multiple someones were flinging shots a couple blocks from the Arena while the game was going on. As ever, the Transit Center was ground zero. And no, it does not sound like those “security cameras” saw anything.
