Or Eric Frazier vs. Scott Fowler.

Frazier tells us that out-of-zone public high school athletes have been “curbed” by new CMS regs and the $300K witch-hunt CMS conducted looking for cheating at Independence. This after Fowler profiles one of the “more and more” CMS athletes playing sports despite no fixed address, hence by definition playing out-of-zone.

Seems CMS has no problem with athletes playing out-of-zone — provided you fill out enough paperwork. Interesting, in passing it is mentioned CMS keeps no firm track of “homeless” athletes. It follows then that no one knows how many have applied for the distinction or the acceptance rate. But I see the makings of a fascinating investigative foray into who CMS is approving for the out-of-zone athlete status, based on what standards, and overall trends.

I hope one of the papers chooses to pursue it.

Bonus Observation: I continue to hold that CMS should not spend any time worrying about this.
