Fayetteville is forcibly annexing farms. Naturally, lots of farm practices are illegal within city limits. The city says existing farms will be grandfathered, but the farmers think that’s a tall tale.

Says 93-year-old farmer Joe Jenkins: “They’re saying one thing, but I want to see it in writing. All I want is something in writing that they won’t bother us as far as what we’re doing now.”

Grandfathering existing farms sounds OK, but what happens when a particular farm goes under for a few years then another farmer wants to start it back up?

Only one good thing can come of this. Next time Fayetteville citizens get angry at their local governemnt, they can storm city hall with real pitchforks.
