Yesterday, as I was sitting at Bob Evans enjoying a nice order of a
western omelet and a Diet Coke – great way to start your day and pencil
in your date for a triple bypass surgery by age 40 – I read USA Today’s
article on Franklin Graham. The majority of the article talks about how
Franklin has taken over the ministries of Billy Graham and his
involvement in New Orleans. However, the first few paragraphs made my
stomach a little uneasy and no it wasn’t because of my meal.

The
author insisted that Franklin Graham was “controversial” because he has
“called Islam ‘a very evil and wicken religion'” and that he “prayed
‘in Jesus’ name’ at President Bush’s 2001 swearing-in ceremony.” This
line really got me: “Now comes the controversial son, who never fails to say Jesus is the only way.”

Not
to get into theology, but Graham isn’t controversial – he’s right. I’ve
never appreciated the way the mainstream media treats Christians and I
refuse to get used to it.
