USA Today has “corrected” its Oct. 19 depiction of Condi Rice, in which her photo was manipulated in a way to make her look like a monster from a Grade-B horror movie. The correction characterizes the photo manipulation benignly, saying that the photo editor “brightened a portion of Rice’s face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance.” Ya’ think!

I’m not a PhotoShop expert, but it looks to me as if someone made several gray pixels white in the doctored photo.

If you “brighten a portion” of a photo in PhotoShop, it is almost impossible to get gray to become bright white, at least in my experience. This looks like those pixels were individually changed. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
