George Will here provides an excellent if rather trivial example: efforts by “interior designers” to license their profession and prohibit people who are mere “decorators” from either saying that they are “designers” or from doing any work that entails “design.” Moving a piece of furniture that’s more than 69 inches tall is among the characteristics of interior design work.

This is an inherent problem with government that has power to do more than just protect life, liberty and property. Interest groups will find ways to get officials to pass laws and regulations that stifle competition.
