Whenever government subsidies anything, one result is that the beneficiaries will starting using all kinds of rhetorical deception and flim-flammery to keep the subsidies going. They’ll say that the subsidies are “good for the state” (or the country) when in fact  they’re good for a tiny number of individuals in the state.

In this post, our Wilmington friend Bob Smith takes aim at recent editorializing in the StarNews that resorts to a sob-story to pitch the continuation of state subsidies for the film business. He correctly observes, “This nomadic, unstable, marginally profitable industry will temporarily locate in any state willing to pay its executives the highest bribes.”

Ignore the boo-hooing and get the state out of film and all other kinds of corporate welfare.
