CBS Radio, the parent of WPEG FM, is very lucky it is not explaining a tragedy in the wake of the For Sisters Only event over the weekend at the Merchandise Mart.

MEDIC was called in to handle 20 passed-out concert-goers. Lack of food and water led to dehydration, a MEDIC spokesman said.

MEDIC correctly placed most of the blame on the concert fans who came to the day-long event unprepared for a day-long event.

“Even if they said, ‘Let me put a Snickers bar in my pocket and some water,’ they could have prevented it. I think it was just personal neglect on their end,” Regina Davis, MEDIC Agency and Community Coordinator told News 14 Carolina.

Well said, Regina. But event organizers should have known they audience better. Known, for example, that a high energy, general admission crowd packed with young people might not plan ahead. Maybe build-in a 30 minute “cool down” or two during the day when you have security clear the area in front the stage. Give everyone the opportunity to get some water — I assume there wasn’t a Woodstock 94 problem with $5 water — and come back refreshed.

A little common sense will max out everyone’s fun.
