Carolina Journal is pleased to announce the hiring of experienced journalist and accomplished political commentator Donna King as its new Editor-in-Chief. King, a North Carolina native, takes the helm of Carolina Journal as it embarks on its 30th year of providing North Carolinians with independent, rigorous, and uncompromising coverage of state issues that impact them.
“Donna is a force of nature and of journalism. At a time when the media landscape is changing rapidly, Donna brings energy and new ideas while maintaining Carolina Journal’s long tradition of honest, fact-based political news and commentary that North Carolinians have come to know and trust,” said Carolina Journal publisher Amy O. Cooke.
“We are thrilled to have Donna. I look forward to working with her to build out new features and expand our reach,” Cooke added.
In addition to print journalism, King has anchored news and political talk programming on television and radio and delivered live coverage of historic world events.
“I am honored to be a part of the Carolina Journal team and join the long history of quality journalism here,” King said. “As more North Carolinians try to decipher news and fact from angle and opinion, Carolina Journal remains committed to delivering clear information readers can count on. I am looking forward to working with this team of talented journalists in an effort to grow our footprint in the state’s media landscape.”
King graduated from North Carolina State University after growing up in Raleigh and attending Broughton High School and Saint Mary’s College. After graduation, she married Ron King and moved to Los Angeles, where Ron served as a U.S. Air Force officer. There, she worked in local news and continued her journalism career when they moved to the Washington, D.C., area. During her tenure in the nation’s capital, she reported and anchored for ABC’s NewsChannel 8, America’s Voice Television Network, and Reuters Television North America.
Donna, Ron, and their three children returned to North Carolina in 2007, where she was one of the founders of the North State Journal and later hosted the Triangle’s Morning News on News Radio 680 WPTF. Currently, you can see her on “Front Row with Marc Rotterman” on UNC-TV each weekend.
