Joe Guarino says the City of Greensboro’s policy of “annex, bond, tax” is beyond his comprehension:

Perhaps the logic behind all of this is beyond my comprehension. But here goes– we annex; we then find we need to provide new facilities for multiple city departments; we then push bond issues in the name of civic boosterism; and then we raise taxes. And the cycle keeps going around and around and around.

So the question is– why annex? If it is going to force tax increases among existing taxpayers, should not the annexation be a matter of public discussion, and should this not be disclosed to the taxpayer? And should not city council members be straightforward that this is what they are doing?

While at the same time, the city wrings its hands over urban sprawl….
