Joe Belcher kept talking about the success of the Regional Recreation Authority being dependent on the people who get appointed. I was just talking over the weekend with somebody who is spending time in Saudi Arabia. He was impressed by the way over there everybody is bound by a commitment to honor their God and with him their societal institutions, whereas over here, we try to bind an amoral people with laws and crazy lawsuits. Anyway, the board here is to be appointed by the county commissioners, who are nothing but once and future petty citizens who, by the requirement that the board be appointed, we must assume, lack that je ne sais quoi necessary to make the good selections.
