Public officials who silence law-abiding citizens because other groups threaten violence if they get their say are becoming much too common. It happened again in California after pro-illegal immigration forces threatened protests because a closed-borders group was awarded an Adopt-a-Highway sign. The state bowed to pressure and took the sign down, saying they feared problems.

Here’s an idea: Put the damn sign up, and if demonstrators break the law as a result, arrest them, deport them, or whatever. But don’t infringe on the free-speech rights of the law-abiding to avoid lawlessness by others.

Seems simple to me.
