North Carolina isn’t the only state that’s seen battles over voter ID laws in recent months. But not all of them have gone the same way as North Carolina’s, which was vetoed earlier this year. Today, in Pennsylvania, a judge refused to strike down a law very similar to North Carolina’s, which requires all voters to show some sort of ID before being allowed to vote.
The battle in Pennsylvania isn’t over yet. Opponents of the law will likely appeal the decision. But it’s a positive step. Voter fraud undermines the very fabric of our democracy, creating questions about the integrity of our elections. Voter ID laws help to prevent that. Hopefully North Carolina will follow where Pennsylvania is leading.
