I am a proponent of having to present a photo ID in order to vote in North Carolina. That stance was reinforced when I donated blood today. In order to donate my blood, I had to have a photo ID or a Red Cross donor card.

Of course, I had to ask the worker several questions. First, what happens if you don’t have a photo ID? After she danced around the question, it was evident that you cannot donate blood with out that photo ID or donor card, but you must have already donated blood to get the donor card. Next, I asked: How many people go to the bother of donating blood and give a false name. Her answer was. “They do it all the time.” Again I asked why and her answer was, “They don’t want to get caught.” Bingo! The reason we need a photo ID to vote.

I’m still confused about why someone would go to donate blood and give a false name. I do not understand what they will gain.

But there is no question in my mind why they don’t want to present a photo ID to vote. They don’t want to get caught!
