Renovations to Winston-Salem’s downtown Benton Convention Center will move forward after the City Council approved a $15.7 million contract with a Chapel Hill contracting firm, which was the sole bidder on the project.

The $15 million is under Resolute Building Company’s initial bid of $17.8 million, but with a few tweaks here and there—plus an additional $600,000 from the city, the Forsyth County Tourism Development Authority is confident the May 2017 goal for completing the work will be reached.

I would have said reopening, but the center will remain open during the renovations, which is the main reason cited for only one bidder.
