Winston-Salem’s Creative Corridors Coalition has hired a San Francisco architect to help the coalition “imagine and design bridge treatments that will make a statement to the region and the world, through architectural design, that Winston-Salem is a place of achievement.”

Donald McDonald has already designed “Twin Arches” to enhance the intersection of the U.S. 52 bridge and Salem Creek connector. According to the Journal, “(c)oalition officials declined to estimate the arches’ cost, saying that to do so would negatively impact the bidding process under way, but they expect the cost to be a small percentage of the connector’s overall costs.”

Will be interesting to see how that works out.
