The Winston-Salem City Council voted last night to approve a cash-swap involving federal grant money with the developers of the new taxpayer-funded downtown stadium.

The Winston-Salem Journal is calling the move “a wash,” since the city is giving Billy Prim $1 million while the city takes another $1 million in fed money for street improvements surrounding the stadium. The beauty part of it all, according to council member Wanda Merschel, is Dash owner Billy Prim can now “use the money for any construction at the ballpark, instead of just on parking or roads.”

No matter what you call it, this is still public money going toward a stadium that is over-budget and behind schedule.
