The public hearing on the City of Winston-Salem’s plan to bail out Billy Prim’s downtown stadium continues tonight. Mayor Allen Joines says he wants to create a ‘citizens committee’ to oversee how the city’s money is spent.

Menawhile, the Winston-Salem Journal says it’s “inevitable, and even healthy, that politics enter this picture,” but “council members should try hard to divorce themselves from politics as they consider the financial assistance for the stadium.”

The deal’s going to pass, and council members will have to deal with the political consequences later. That certainly includes Joines —- if anyone will run against him, that is.
