City Council District 5 candidate Trudy Wade fires a shot at incumbent Sandy Carmany at yesterday’s forum:
Wade expressed unhappiness with how City Manager Mitch Johnson locked former police Chief David Wray out of his office in January 2006 just days before Wray resigned. Carmany defended Johnson, saying he has been the most open city manager in her 16 years as an elected official.
This will be by far the most interesting council race because the candidates are very different. Wade was a strong conservative voice on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners and such a voice will be needed on the council.
In her opening statement, Carmany said one of her priorities was “providing quality, efficient city services at the least cost to taxpayers.” But Carmany’s role as the city’s transportation queen whereupon she supports a costly city bus system (I don’t how many near-empty city buses I see running every day) combined with her involvement with that money-sucking entity PART cause me to seriously doubt that priority.
