Wake County Commissioners rejected a proposal yesterday to cut their pay by 10 percent, an idea originated by Joe Bryan.
From the N&O:
Despite losing the vote, Republicans Joe Bryan and Tony Gurley both said they would voluntarily give back a tenth of their commissioners’ salaries — a portion in line with the cuts faced by county departments due to the poor economy and declining tax revenues.
Even if you think the proposal was politically calculated, no one can quibble with the logic. A few thousand saved in commissioners’ salaries would make no difference in the big scheme of things, but it’s still a decent symbolic gesture.
