Thanks to the Wake County Commissioners for repealing the open space extortion scheme that forced home builders to “contribute” to the open space slush fund. Since 2002, home builders were forced to either “donate” land or “contribute” to the open space fund before they could receive a building permit. For the most part, this raised the sale price of the homes making them less affordable for low- and moderate-income families. Of course, this leads to another pet program of the left, “affordable housing.”See the N&O report here. Also see the JLF report “Unaffordable Housing: Cities keep low-and middle-income families from home ownership.”
