The recent release of public school standardized test scores in Wake County and districts across North Carolina prompted several media outlets to contact the John Locke Foundation. Dr. Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies, analyzed the scores for Bill LuMaye and WPTF Radio. Speaking of radio, Stoops participated in a panel discussion of Wake County school diversity on WUNC’s “The State of Things.” He also discussed test scores and the recent Wake student assignment controversy with Cash Michaels for WAUG. The News & Observer published Stoops’ opinion column questioning the impact of Wake’s latest test score gains. The N&O also quoted Stoops in an article comparing Wake and Charlotte-Mecklenburg student test performance. The WakeEd blog publicized the same comparison between the state’s two largest school systems. Meanwhile, the N&O‘s regional papers, including the Cary News, Eastern Wake News, and Midtown Raleigh News, picked up articles from last week that featured Stoops’ initial reaction to the new test scores.
