The headline of this N&O article is “Schools cope with enrollments.”

Are we supposed to feel sorry for the Wake County Schools?

After all, student enrollment growth has slowed, and the overcrowding at schools like Panther Creek HS is clearly the product of faulty student assignment decisions by Wake County Schools planners. The article points out, “Five Wake high schools are at least 300 students below capacity, while schools such as Panther Creek are overflowing.” Come on, people.

Also remember that, in 2006, voters approved a billion dollar bond to pay for school construction. The school system has plenty of money to add seats as the system grows. If the Wake County Schools cannot keep up with growth, then maybe it is necessary to rethink the district’s school construction program.

True to form, school officials blame the courts and parents for overcrowding.
