The Wake County Taxpayers Association has filed suit against the city of Raleigh in a dispute over a measure designed to increase voter accountability for city government debt.

The suit contends Raleigh used the wrong standard when it rejected a petition that would lead to a referendum on a proposed change to the city charter. If the petition moves forward, voters would decide whether to amend the charter to require a vote of the people before Raleigh assumes any new debt.
