Wake County Schools voted to allow soft drinks to be sold in school vending machines, but also voted to turn the machines off during school hours. They are now requesting bids for exclusive contracts to sell soft drinks and other beverages in schools.
This raises a very serious public health concern. Should the school district choose Coke, Pepsi, or something outrageous like RC Cola? I prefer Pepsi. Nevertheless, I would not mind seeing Wake do the unexpected and choose RC. More than anything, I would like to see schools filled with vending machines that say, “Be Free, Drink RC.”
