Jay Nordlinger has an excellent cover story on Wal-Mart in the latest National Review. The article is not online, so it’s off to the store (does Wal-Mart carry NR?) if you want to read it.

It’s definitely worth a read (Nordlinger calls Wal-Mart “gloriously, unabashedly, star-spangledly American”), especially in light of yesterday’s Inglewood, Calif., vote not to give Wal-Mart the variances it would need to open a superstore in town. Residents gave the typical reasons for opposing Wal-Mart. I wonder how many of them nonetheless shop at one of the 10 Wal-Marts within 50 miles of Inglewood.
