As you’ve probably heard, Harvard’s president, Larry Summers, is in very hot water with the faculty. I suspect that the English Department is slicing up the vegetables to add to the stew at this moment.

For some eminently sensible remarks about the whole affair, read what Walter Williams has to say.

Summers simply hasn’t been the very model of a modern university president, starting with his criticism of Cornel West and taking of other positions at odds with left-wing orthodoxies. The faculty radicals (no doubt a significant percentage) want him gone and will seize upon any excuse for an opportunity to grab their torches and pitchforks.

I hope Summers survives this onslaught and isn’t beaten down into the sort of compliant liberal administrator the faculty want.
