The Hendersonville Times-News celebrated a home-schooled student receiving a National Merit Scholarship to attend a private university. It seemed like an “in-your-face” story for public schools until the newspaper spoiled it all with the following alleged quote:

“Mom did the main teaching through the elementary and middle school grades. Then when I got to the high school level courses, she became more of a guidance counselor, helping me choose which courses to take and applying college.”
