I have always been cautious about the foods I put in my body, even as a young child. I am a vegetarian…almost. I continue to eat fish, but no other meat. I made this choice several years ago due to legitimate health reasons and I honestly believe I am healthier and feel better because of it.
However, I keep the “everything in moderation” philosophy when it comes to eating. Occasionally, I eat fast food and junk food AND I enjoy it. I certainly do not support government mandated bans on trans fat or bans that prevent new fast food joints from opening.
This blog post takes it a step too far by comparing addictive drugs to junk food. Apparently, many researchers actually believe junk food is addictive and the cheeseburger industry needs more regulation because of it. Did I miss something? When was the last time someone was caught getting high off french fries? I do not force my diet choices on anyone and I certainly do not support government telling me what I can and cannot eat.
This is the most annoying sentence in the entire post:
The study supports the view that obesity must be understood as a brain disease and that hunger should also be looked at as a kind of food addiction.
Hunger is not a food addiction, it is our body telling us that we need nutrients and energy to survive.
Just for the record, I really miss bacon.
