As part of the John Locke Foundation?s Headliner series, Lt. General Thomas McInerney, USAF (ret.), Senior Fox News Military Analyst will be in Fayetteville on Thursday for a luncheon at noon at the Holiday Inn on Owen Drive.  He?ll be giving us an update on the War on Terror and it couldn?t be more timely.

According to a report on the financial obligations for the Department of Defense:

Since 2001, the US Congress has provided the Department of Defense  with about $807 billion in supplemental and annual appropriations, as of September 2008, primarily for military operations in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT).

The United States’ commitments to GWOT will likely involve the continued investment of significant resources, requiring decision makers to consider difficult trade-offs as the nation faces an increasing long-range fiscal challenge.

Weigh the $807 billion already spent to fight terrorism and what will be needed to continue that fight against the proposed $700 billion bailout for the financial industry and it means big obligations for the American taxpayer and tough priority setting for lawmakers.

It will be interesting to see what Lt. Gen. McInerney thinks.   This will be an interesting and important discussion. There are still a few seats left and you can sign up here.
