The state Department of Corrections has fired Charlotte city councilman Warren Turner for what can only be described as unspecified reasons. Now what? Let’s assess:

  • Winners: Curt Walton, Mac McCarley and city staff troubled by Turner for years. The DOC, which thus far has managed to tip-toe the line between looking pro-active and full-on scandal. Turner’s attorneys, who sound like they might get paid to fight the firing.
  • Losers: Council GOPers Warren Cooksey and Andy Dulin who voted against censuring Turner while proclaiming his innocence. WBTV’s Steve Crump who famously declared that Turner had been “very honest” throughout this matter. Residents of Turner’s district, who are represented by a walking distraction. Anthony Foxx, who could get hit with the “blame” for triggering this series of events with his anti-harassment email.

Of course this could all flip at a moment’s notice. Ain’t Charlotte politics grand?
