In an unprecedented move, an American president is going to live-stream a message to a captive audience of public-school students. That’s the least of it, though. Teachers are being sent study and activity guides by the White House for teachers to use after the president’s address.

It’s common now to ask people to reverse things on a lib-conservative basis. But humor me. Imagine if George W. Bush, say, at the time that recruitment was supposedly lagging for the armed forces, had decided to live-stream a speech to captive public-school children. How would that go down with the lefties in Durham? There would already be marches, probably with a lot of pot banging going on. But not a peep on Obama’s propaganda effort to youngsters, at a time when his programs are dying on the vine and his polls are nose-diving.

No advance copy of the speech has been released, so I don’t know what he’s going to say. But it is suspected it will tout national service, collectivism and “volunteerism,” just the kind of creepy big-government intrusion that has erstwhile supporters leaving him in droves. But I don’t care what it’s about. Whatever he says, to abuse his power this way is as inappropriate as it is unprecedented.

If my kids weren’t grown, you can be sure they’d be held out of school for this educational travesty.

UPDATE: Apparently Obama announced his school-speech effort to a young reporter last month. Also, more indications that this will be a push to get kids involved in “public service.”

UPDATE 2: Apparently it was Ron Paul’s blog that first got this before the public, which led The Drudge Report to pick it up. Good thing we have the mainstream media to keep us informed.
