N&R music reviewer Parke Puterbaugh isn’t in a good mood right now. When Daughtry gets to town this weekend, Puterbaugh could still have the bad taste in his mouth from Saturday night’s Jamie Foxx show at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The print edition headline above Puterbaugh’s (unposted) review read Raunchy Foxx fails to impress. That’s a bit of an understatement:

…I found the whole affair to be vulgar and weak on the comedy side and derivative and overwrought on the musical end. And it was long: one hour of insult-oriented comedy from a warm-up act identified as “Speedy” and two hours of the narcissistic Foxx, who did everything but wheel a giant Oscar statue onstage for everyone to ogle and worship.

Foxx, who received an Oscar for his fine performance as Ray Charles in “Ray,” never let anyone forget it. The mantra for the evening, repeated at least a dozen times was: “I won an Oscar, but I’m still in the ghetto.” In other words, he wanted it both ways: rubbing elbows with the glitteratti and hanging out with the homeboys down South.”

A week might not be long enough for Puterbaugh to put that one behind him.
