That’s particularly good advice regarding politicians and the current farm bill provides a wonderful lesson in political hypocrisy. Both the supposedly pro-free enterprise Republicans and the supposedly pro- “little guy” Democrats are mostly in favor of the new farm bill that drives up food prices and lavishes subsidies on wealthy farmers. That includes “farmers” such as David Letterman.
The Wall Street Journal has an illuminating editorial today.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If we had stayed with the Constitution’s original concept of limited federal powers — nothing says that Congress has the power to subsidize farming or anything else — we wouldn’t have this wasteful, hypocritical mess.
