Owners of local TV station Black Network Television are threatening to sue the City of Greensboro after the City Council walked back a $300k loan to produce the Watcha Cookin?’ sitcom.

BNT attorney Willie Gary says:

“Something went down after the vote in June, something happened that shouldn’t have happened, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it,” Gary said. “Whatever it takes, whether by way of the courts or by way of the jury system, we’re going to bring those who are guilty of racism to the forefront.”

Gary emphasized, however, that he hopes he can resolve the issue outside court system.

“We want to sit down with the city, we want to settle this matter…and we want to stop the bleeding before there’s any bleeding,” he said. “But if we can’t, we’re going to stand up for justice.”

I’d love to know whom Gary thinks is guilty of racism on this council. I fully support BNT’s efforts to produce a sitcom here in our humble city, but it’s disappointing that BNT owners Michael and Roberta Woods would resort to a lawsuit, especially since the city was all set to lend them the money until it came to light that the Woods had a second mortgage on a $975,000 home they had pledged as collateral.

I’d like to see the Woods threaten to sue a private lender for rejecting a loan under such circumstances.
