I was frankly stunned that WBTV was the only local TV outlet that went to live local coverage of the Hudson River ditching yesterday afternoon. Given the plane was bound for Charlotte and packed with Bank of Wachovia employees the potential for a massive disaster for the local community was great.

Besides, by 4:30pm the nets had ceased to report any actual news about the incident and were merely recycling old vid and reports while talking over that with speculation and occasional phoned in observations. Doing that locally, at least for a bit, certainly made as much sense while driving home to viewers the Charlotte-centric nature of the story.
