. . . So when House Speaker Jim Black complained recently to the Greensboro News & Record about the teminology of the latest legislative scandal, I took notice. It seems that the speaker doesn?t like the term ?discretionary? used to describe the accounts that he, Co-Speaker Richard Morgan, and Senate leader Marc Basnight controlled within several executive-branch agencies. On ?discretionary?:

?That’s a bad term,? said Black, a Democrat from suburban Charlotte. ?It doesn?t sound good when it comes out in the newspaper.?

Gotta be sympathetic to that. I do have some suggestions for terms the news media can use instead:

? Pork-barrel account.
? Slush fund.
??Personal-political piggy-bank.
??Funny fisc.
? Newspaper marketing investment.
??Lawsuit bait.
