Another fine way to waste taxpayers’ money and detract from serious attempts at education at the same time is still alive in the House version of the budget. The “North Carolina in the World” program tries to embed “international knowledge” in other K-12 subjects, including mathematics, science and technology, as I describe here. (Personally, I always found Swedish algebra soooo much easier than French algebra.)

It also features such important learning tools like international teleconferencing between elementary schools.

This program should be at least as effective as holding hands all across the country and singing “We are the World.” Although maybe not as effective as singing “Kumbaya” around a campfire.
