Thursday’s Boston Globe carried this story, an example of our country’s growing demand that there be a pill to solve every problem, even when it ‘s something most of us can solve on our own, like being overweight. It’s the subhead of the story that really amazes me:

“Diet, exercise among few options for overweight”

Uh, yeah. That’s news? How about passing up the biggie fries and walking to the park instead of expecting researchers to just make it all go away with yet another pill, one we’ll undoubtedly demand be paid for by insurance?

When did we get so soft?
