It’s called the Positive Behavioral Support Initiative or PBS. Last month Orange County Schools named a director of this new PBS program. We should be concerned that teaching a child to behave and be respectful, and to understand the difference between right and wrong, is now the subject of a public school program.

This is the job of parents.

From the Orange County news release announcing the director’s apppointment:

Positive Behavior Support Programs are a way to impact the learning environments in the schools in order to support high student performance and to reduce behavioral problems. It is a systematic approach that establishes and reinforces clear behavioral expectations and is a team-based system that involves the entire school staff.

Translation: The responsibility for the basics of being a parent is now in the hands of teachers and administrators.
