That was the theme I noticed running through comments of North Carolinians I talked to at yesterday’s Take Back Our State Tea Party in Raleigh. One gentlemen told me he understands — and supports — paying income and sales taxes to fund basic services that we as individuals can’t provide for ourselves. He defined that as roads, police, parks and libraries. Problem is, state and local governments have gone well beyond those basic and appropriate services.
Indeed. You don’t find yourself in a $4 billion budget hole by being prudent and setting a clear set of priorities. You get there by avoiding prudent choices. The News & Observer’s take on the rally is here. JLF’s Mitch Kokai was on site shooting video of the speeches. You can see/listen to the speakers here.
Thanks to all the folks who came out from around the state, and to the sponsors, led by Americans for Prosperity.
