The N&R reports the Piedmont Triad International Airport Authority will hold a (gasp) special meeting this week. Everyone’s silent on the agenda, but the paper did a good job of figuring it out: incentives for Skybus.

The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority will hold an unusual special meeting this week to consider an incentives plan for airlines offering nonstop service to cities not currently served from the airport.

The meeting comes as Skybus Airlines is considering whether to make Piedmont Triad International Airport one of its “focus cities” — a move that would create a base of planes flying nonstop from PTI.

The discount airline has said it could make its decision by the end of the month.

With PTI’s monthly meeting only a week away, neither the airport authority’s chairman nor a spokesman for Skybus would comment Monday on the meeting’s quick timing, which also will include a closed session to discuss possible business expansion and incentives.

I guess the question is whether or not the meeting will officially approve the $300,000 handed over by the county for Skybus or if PTIA will add on to that figure.
