I’m entitled to my opinion, and that opinion is favorable toward the entry covering “entitlements” in American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia (ISI Books, 2006):

To call entitlement programs a safety net is certainly to cultivate a pleasant image, one that makes it seem almost impolite to question the contribution of such programs in promoting the pursuit of happiness. For some caution or insurance, as represented by a safety net, is surely a good thing in nearly anyone’s judgment. Yet that net, to continue with the analogy, is woven through the toil of others.

That’s why it’s important to remain wary about the size of the net.
