Heartland Publications, which owns 20 small newspapers in North Carolina, is now owned by a new group called Civitas Media, LLC:
Versa Capital Management, LLC, a private equity investment firm, today announced the creation of Civitas Media, LLC, a new community news media company. Civitas, Latin for “community” or “citizen,” combines four media entities owned by Versa: Freedom Central, Heartland Publications, Impressions Mediaa, nd Ohio Community Media.
When people in North Carolina hear the word Civitas, they first think of Civitas Institute, the conservative policy group well-known for its political polling. I’m guessing the creation of Civitas LLC, with its large presence in North Carolina, will complicate the job of headline writers.
